New Writing Contest from the Literacy Center of McAllen

The Literacy Center of McAllen has announced a new writing contest. People of all ages are invited to submit stories. Stories submitted by authors 17 and younger will be placed in one category. A second judging category will include authors aged 18 and over.

Stories can be fiction or nonfiction between 500-700 words. They should be on one of three topics:

  • What I like most about living in the Rio Grande Valley
  • An unknown history or legend about the Rio Grande Valley
  • What I would miss most about the Rio Grande Valley

The Literacy Center will display the winning works along with a specially commissioned accompanying illustration by a local artist.

The submission deadline is April 8. All work should be e-mailed to mlcwritingcontest@gmail.com. Include your name, age and contact information in the email. Winners will be notified during the week of April 24.
