4th of July celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a document that is difficult for students to understand. The Declaration of Independence: The Words that Made America by Sam Fink illustrates each phrase of the Declaration.

The Signers: The 56 Stories Behind the Declaration of Independence by Dennis Brindell Fradin provides a short biography of each signer. The readable biographies provide an interesting historical context for the document.
