A few weeks ago I was in Austin and accidently stumbled across the Texas Book Festival. Of course I had to buy some books! Here are two that may be of interest:
The borderlands are an area of linguistic conflict, compromise, and creation. Telling Tongues: A Latin@ Anthology on Language Experience edited by Louis G. Mendoza and Toni Nelson Herrera features work from over two dozen Latin@ authors. Through personal reflection, poetry, memoir, and fiction these authors describe the complexities of language use among Latin@s.
Tamales, Comadres, and the Meaning of Civilization by Ellen Riojas Clark and Carmen Tafolla is a light, fun examination of the role of tamales in Latino culture.
